Good news everybody, Beta 2.0.6 is now available!
The big feature for this release is Cel Shading to give your movies a completely different style: a cross between comic book and cartoons. You set this for a particular movie by going to the Script and selecting the Outline section and toggling the checkbox on the Settings tab. Future refinements may include setting cel shading on a per character/prop or per camera basis. Let us know what you think.
If you get the DomesticDrama01 content pack, also released today (it's FREE!), you'll be able to see the first use of particle systems in Moviestorm with Fireplace 02 in this pack (it works as a wall segment to save you the confusion). We'll have more fireplaces kitted out with fires soon and we're also planning to have some flamebars which you can put anywhere you like to set fires to things. We're also intending to add controls for the fires so you can turn them up/down during a scene.
Some of the wall/floor/ceiling textures in this week's content pack are tintable so you can make your sets any colour you want. Right click on them to customize.
Also many existing models which are tintable, now have a mask so not all areas get tinted (a good example is the saloon car where the lights and wheel trim are no longer tinted).
We've had to take a couple of minor steps backwards though:
* Characters no longer shift weight from leg to leg as a standard idle cycle - this was interfering with other anims. Ambient motions will be back in a future release but in a more sophisticated fashion.
* Some gestures after standing up will cause the actor to slide backwards - this has been causing problems in one way or another for some time but we are hoping it will be fixed for the next release
The update should be downloaded automatically when Moviestorm starts up but if you have any problems here is the complete patch bundle since Beta 2.0:
http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/download/Moviestorm-Beta2.0.6-update.zip
Unpack the contents to your Program Files/Moviestorm-beta2 directory and then run the AutoUpdate program directly.

Very cool! I'm going to download it right now.
I'm assuming the DomesticDrama01 is going to be released soon?
[EDIT]
When I try to download it, I get this message:
Downloading: patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar (78159 bytes)
DOWNLOADS FAILED:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/download/patches-beta2/patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar
PATCH STALLED - Waiting for complete download of patches\patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar
Please retry when download is complete.
I'm not downloading any packs, so...?
[EDIT 2]
I'll try using the .zip file. I'm downloading that right now.
[EDIT 3]
I used the .zip file, and I get this error message (I think it's the same?):
Downloading: patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar (78159 bytes)
DOWNLOADS FAILED:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/download/patches-beta2/patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar
PATCH STALLED - Waiting for complete download of patches\patch-MaleCostumes01-5355.jar
Please retry when download is complete.
I'll try restarting my computer, to see if that helps.
[EDIT 4]
I restarted my computer, and I got the same exact message. Any help?

Ah, okay. Good to know. I see the domestic pack is on the site now. I won't try to download it until everything's nice and peachy.

Thanks for flagging the problem CPTDestroyer. The move from the test server to live server didn't go quite as smoothly as planned.
Should all be ok now - DomesticDrama01 is available as well.

WOW. The cel-shading looks VERY nice. I'm now contemplating making Detective Dedlie in the Missing Coffee cel-shaded. I might also rebuild all the sets for it and add all the cool new content.
This update + pack was VERY cool.
Also, I didn't see this listed, but it seems like you fixed the issues with facial hair, where it'd go through the actor's skin if they did an extreme facial expression (such as the frightened ones) or talked.
[EDIT]
About the ability to have individual objects / cameras / whatever you mentioned, I wouldn't have any use for it, but some people might. And it's also nice to have more options. I'd say go for it, but keep it at a low priority. I'd say focus on other stuff before that, such as sci-fi and action content. But, that's just me.

I started Moviestorm and was presented with the Update screen.
I clicked ok and it seemed to do its thing.
But, when I click Help>Version Number Moviestorm displays Beta 2.0.5 not 2.0.6.

Same with me... no cell shading... 2.0.5
ed.
also, the domestic package update also seemed to work right, but I'm having trouble finding the fireplace? What section should I find that under?
ed2. the domestic package does show up under "add-ons"
(using Vista)

Oops, looks like we forgot to change the version number in the help file.
How to get cel-shading:
With the movie you are wanting to change from a normal view to cel-shading, click the script editor button (one of the big buttons at the top).
Select the overview, above the scene list, at the top left.
Select the settings tab
Check the Cel-Shading tick box.
Fireplaces:
Use the 'door' icon to put fireplaces in your walls, in the same way you would doors or windows.
DomesticDrama01:
Do try out the coffee mug animations, which should best be started when you have given a character a mug in their inventory (from the character sheet), and when the character is sitting down on a sofa.
There are also the wineglass animations, which are best tried with a standing character (once you have the wineglass selected in the inventory).

When I installed the 2.0.6 update my depth of field doesn;t work anymore, anytime I use it the camera area goes totally dark and the screen flashes.
I also do not have any Cel-Shading options in the Settings tab of Script Overview.
