I just tried to import a Moviestorm avi to Vegas Movie Studio for the first time, and it was a no go. Windows Movie Maker imported it fine, and after rerendering it with WMM, Vegas accepted it for editing.

This may sound ridiculous but- Would it be possible to make coherent movies without an outside editor? Is there an editor in-game? Because I am not computer-savvy and I don't have any editing tools.

I had the same problem with Sony Vegas, reptor - I needed to install the Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec (MPG4C32.DLL) and now the clips import for me. The audio doesn't work yet with Vegas, but the team are working on it.
Ben, if you have Windows XP, you may already have Windows Movie Maker editing software, if not you can download it free from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

Vista Ultimate (don't know about other versions of Vista) has it under All Programs | Windows Movie Maker.
I haven't tried it out yet, but it seems much like the XP version.

you most likely have WMM6 when us XP'ers are stuck with 2.1 or 2.6 with Media Center. there are added features in your like HD video and Transitions we don't have.
