Since we'll be owning the movies we create with Moviestorm, I thought it might be an idea to start a list of resources for royalty free or Creative Commons music, sound effects, images and anything else we might need for our films.
I'll start with a few I know and if anyone knows of more please add them to this thread:
Music:
http://www.magnatune.com/ - Magnatune is an internet record label, you can request one album free to download for machinima, so long as it's non-commercial.

http://www.owlmm.com/ - searches Magnatune, CCmixter & Jamedo

now that is useful - I've already posted a set of script resources in another thread http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/forum/posts/list/54.page and I am sure others have ideas and favourite honey pots as well

Thanks Michelle, I've been working my way through Jamendo and they have some wonderful music (searchable by license), but I wasn't aware of the other music sites.

I did a thread about websites with sound effects on the The Movies website a while ago.
Here are the links:
http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/pir/PIRsfx.html
http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/index.html
http://www.pachd.com/sounds.html
http://simplythebest.net/sounds/WAV/sound_effects_WAV/
http://amazingsounds.iespana.es/en/
http://www.vionline.com/sound.html
http://www.flashkit.com/index.shtml
http://www.grsites.com/sounds/
This last one has them for sale but they're not very expensive
http://www.a1freesoundeffects.com/
I will try to find some time to look around on the TM forums. A lot of resources already exist there. I will of course give credit to the person who originally posted it.

One other list I'll be looking for depends on which type of 3d objects MS will allow you to import. I know there are free 3D resources at various places, but until we know if MS supports the import of .obj or .3ds or ??? it won't be of much help. Has that decision been made yet?

I haven't tested this myself, but I looked around for a free video editor. I thought it looked promising (maybe someone can check it out who needs one, and let us know?):

I've used this free editor and I think with time and determination you could do most things.
It is difficult to learn, though chromakeying works well and is reasonably simple.
You can have as many layers and effects as your pc allows, in any order you like.
File types can be an issue.
It's more of a beta in development than a finished program.
If you like the idea of wrting your own effects you might like it.
Most people use it in tandem with WMM as simple things take a long time to do in t@b

Sound Editor: Audacity
Until just recently I was using a paid-for sound editor... and just switched to Audacity. Long story short, I like it just as much.

Audacity is a great audio program. There are a lot of plug ins for it.
I've used it for all of my projects on TM. Since I can use it, it is very easy to use.

I reallly like Jamendo a lot. I was using Newgrounds until discussion came up on TMO that LH may not want you to use their music in your movies. Not that I took that real seriously, but since I have an hour long movie I am submitting to Bitfilm, I wanted to be sure that I had all my music licenses in order. And Jamendo makes it very easy to do this. Plus I haven't found one piece of music on there that has anything but fantastic sterio sound. And I found a lot of vocals - which I like - and a lot of kind of grunge, which I also like too.
You have to have biittorrent to open the files but bittorrent is easy to use.

I use audacity for many things, and sometimes I use a magix sound editor which I bought new for under £5 on amazon market place.
I find audacity really good for nitty gritty waveform stuff, and magix for mixing.
Audacity has so many plug ins, but I use the basics more than anything.
edit: Jamendo has very quickly become my fave music site, every one of the videos on my youtube site has a track from Jamendo

Yes I am almost glad the the problems that The Movies Online seems to have right now with Newgrounds (although Newgrounds says the use of the music is between you and the artist) because I would not have found out about Jamendo.
I have Adobe Audition 2 which I love. I don't need it that much for music as I do for fixing poor voice over files (since I use other actors for my movies now). But I still use Audacity for a quick and easy recording session.

if you use a vst host, then i recommend getting all your plugs from www.kvraudio.com free and shareware plugins. many are really good, great even. i will post audio links and links doing with audio editing soon. i have to look up my bookmarks.also one of my post i actuallyl recommended them adding vst and vsti support they even had a open souce vsti and vst wrapper.if we had this we could do scores within the program and all audio editing also.i dunno if they listened but it was a good idea none the less and will make this more of a professional program either way let me get on the links
www.rarsoft.com winrar a must have decopressor and compressor
