Tell us if you've made a movie before - even if it's just filming your brother doing something stupid with your mobile phone, that counts!

I've made a handful of no-budget films before I turned to animation and then to machinima to make my movie dreams.

What engine(s) did you use to make machinima?

For machinima I have used The Movies, and The Sims in the past, but now I use Poser 6 and VirtualStage, mostly VirtualStage which I find to be the easiest to make my set ups in. It's biggest draw back is in importing characters. This is the tool that I use at the production company that I do most of my work for, which is to make pre-viz of scenes for filmmakers.

The newest machinima that I have started to work with is Brand World Tools. It is also very easy to use and lets you create full animations in a very short amount of time.

As an actor I've played in more movies than I've made but I've done a few since I was 14.

I worked on a couple shorts before I went crazy and shot an indie pilot for a television series.

I wrote it and shot it so that it could work as a MOW as well. It was a 90 page script (so that it would work out to two hours with commercial breaks) full of everything that you aren't supposed to do on an indie shoot; 15 locations, 32 actors, night exteriors, an animal and a kid, large fight scenes (with guns/swords/knives/steel pipe/chain/staff/hand to hand... and magic with post CGI), makeup fx for an autopsy scene and a myriad of further craziness.

It was insanely ambitious for a no-budget production but through volunteers and the amazing support of the Vancouver film community it was completed in an amazingly short 12 days of shooting. I can't give enough thanks to the cast and crew and specifically the help and support of Derek Rama, Craig Wallace and Florian Dedio without whom it could not have been done.

I can't really post any of it up on the internet since there are two production companies (one in Alberta, the other in LA) that are looking at putting it into development and I'll have to wait for their decision before going ahead with any of that. They would want to reshoot with their own director and actors if they do pick it up.

While waiting, I am re-editing it down to short (2 - 8 minute) webisodes to put up on the internet. If the show is picked up I'm sure that they wouldn't mind letting the world see the (rough) work that I did with it before it got polished... if it isn't picked up then I'll be free to do whatever I want with it.

I've made three features - all low to no-budget - here in the UK, and to varying degrees of success. I could see the difference in turnaround by shooting digitally on our second movie, and since '04 have become aware of the possibilities of Machinima

Frankly, with all the crap I've had to deal with making these movies, and especially the money I lost and the stress it caused, I became very disillusioned with the process. Machinima to me seems the ideal solution, and could well allow me to make engaging and cost-effective animated films - I'm hoping - without the level of compromise I've had to face in the past.

Machinima may well become the democratising tool for filmmakers.

I'm currently using 'the movies' too and have a couple of series online there...made with Rik's help!

A DARKER PLACE and CARNAGE ROAD are both available for view or download on the official site.

Can't wait to see where Moviestorm takes things as regards movie making...been waiting a long time for something like this
