Movie Posts?

I did a little 2 min Moviestorm movie (edited w/Vegas)..., I'd like to put it on my veoh.com website. Any objections from the good folks at Short Fuze?

(In otherwords, I'm understanding you don't mind the beta testers sharing the fruits of our efforts from your cool program? I want to make ABSOLUTELY sure?)

Thanks for your help,
Fulkster
(ed: Perhaps there is someone who wants to see our films before we post them?)
(ed: Also, is it alright for me to use a character image from Moviestorm for my (Moviestorm) avatar?)

I'm understanding that we have a confidentiality agreement and are not allowed to post these movies, so some clarification would be very useful.

It would be very useful for me to see the other beta testers movies, and I have a 1 1/2 minute vegas edited composite myself I'd like to share and discuss.

If we are not allowed to post openly could we have a movie post section just for beta testers?

I was just making sure... looking at both the expressions in the beta agreement and the NDA, I'm thinking at least they want to be represented fairly and possibly want a chance to review. (And have a little credit/commercial statement in what one does.)

All

we REALLY appreciate that you want to show off your movies, and would be delighted if you let the forum about them FIRST.

Why do we not want you all to rush out and show the world? Partly we are working so darned hard on a nice shiny website for you all to be able to post to that it would be a shame not to have them there first, and partly because we want to get some new costumes, assets and lighting in as soon as we can.

Generally, it won't be long before the PUBLIC beta release (real soon now) which will inevitably involve people spreading movies all over youtube and myspace. You guys / gals might want to keep your powder dry for that.

So, here's a deal: you agree to let this forum know about it first. If it really sucks (and we have the final say on that) you agree to take it down and be a good NDA reader. If its pretty cool, and no one objects within 48 hours, you go ahead and show the world.

If that sounds fair, say so here and I'll get the NDA modified, if not, shout in this thread!

Of course it's fair! (and I'd consider it fair, too, if you just wanted us to keep things to ourselves since that is the agreement I signed!)

Here's my little (VERY little) two-minute story. I had a lot of fun doing it:

http://www.spacemanmatt.homestead.com/liaison_.wmv

(If you check out my http://www.spacemanmatt.homestead.com/ site, you'll see it's my storage place for general things relating to "another" movie site- a serial I'm working on (which I expect/hope to be able to move to Moviestorm)... and a picture of my favorite mutt. Don't worry, she doesn't bite.)

If it "really sucks"... I figure that I'll probably have it down in a lot less than 48 hours!

Thanks,

I DID post asbout my short here before putting it on my site (by way of google video) and no one's complained yet. :)

Does this mean that there will be a 'theatre' here as well? All in all, there is a little movie called "The Baggage Boy" over on TMO that reallly needed to fall under this 'show us before you embarrass us' rule. :)

Also these will won't be easily viewable at peak net traffic times.

The first is pure moviestorm + editing filters to get b&w effect.
The second is a composite using one of the characters from moviestorm, and elements from outside the prog.

A scalable moviestorm logo would be useful.
If you are feeling creative a short animated avi could work also.

Part of my 'waiting' vid was created using sims (the blue transparent baby overlay).
I could envisage a problem in only having the moviestorm logo.
Is this a minefield to be avoided, or would lawyers be happy to have both sims and moviestorm credits for one movie?

My other film...the chair doesn't have this issue, being made completely with moviestorm.

Thanks... I got (and still am getting) a lot of enjoyment from the hard work all you put into this project!

I believe I did give Moviestorm credit in my little "Liaison" (saying, "animation: Moviestorm"... and a web address)- let me know if it was not adequate. I'll keep watch for your Moviestorm logo... if you happen to have a clever little animated one, that'd be fun to add in; but I'd be happy to place in any logo you want me to.)

Oh, yes, indeedy!

The best advert for Moviestorm will be the movies that you guys make. Other people will see what you're doing and (we hope) will want to do the same sort of things themselves. So it's important to use that we give you a place to show off your creations - as well as putting them on YouTube, Google, and anywhere else.

(Humbug)... I don't care about the grades folks give the vids. Sometimes you run into folks who grade by their mood at the time, and I think the vast majority of folks don't bother to leave any kind of message.

I had about 225 hits and no comments at my veoh.com site (http://www.veoh.com/channels/FulksterMovies)... that's more hits than my Athena Project series (http://www.veoh.com/channels/Fulkster) there which has been up longer.

A little problem I ran into with my upload, is that it appears darker with their player. If you download it, it looks right. (I hadn't noticed that with my "Athena Project" series...) Is there some setting I can change with my render to make it appear more like the original in their player?

Anyone close to giving us a new little movie? (I got a little "ambushed" with the new patch... which I'm not regretting! I'm liking this last update.)

Music video "I wish I didn't care"
Some part have become more pixelated than I would like due to my eccentric camera control, and then having to compensate by zooming in the editor, but I think it's worth showing because I did manage to get some interesting tracking shots.
(Another amazing creative commons licensed music track from the Jamendo site)

I typed the lyrics into the lip syncher, and then used headphones to speak the words in time with the song..to get the lip synch accurate.....and it is..
except because of having to get the puppet in place at the beginning of the render it kills the synch, and I had to feed the various vid tracks back and forth in the editor until I got a reasonable match.
I know this lip synch program is due to be replaced but it does work really well now...it's just keeping the track start place which is tricky.

Now this is without a doubt the worst quality audio I have ever produced...if I discount that paper cup telephone which I constructed as a child.
I had to feed the rendered scene into a freeware editor, which turned it's nose up at the sample rate (I think) in order to stick the audio and video togather well enough that my main editor would digest it.

Anyhoo.
This is spacekitty's nonsensical blog on the subject of script-writing, and as you may gather, she hasn't done her research.

My sixth completed movie (ie not counting the ones that really really didn't work and wound up in the bin  )

This one is VERY short and has a very similar plot to Fulkster's, but I've given it a bit of a twist.
A woman arrives home to find her boyfriend kissing their elderly neighbour.

I used the 'change mood' function for the first time in this film, and it works well..apart from at extreme setings the lip syncher doesn't work very well...
..so I deleted the dialogue and filmed it as music vid instead.

Hi Cruleworld...
(The question's a little off topic for this thread, but I've seen a few folks including myself say they use Sony Vegas... but that doesn't work as an editor for MS's output at this time (solution to come, I saw)... Adobe Premier Elements works (I've used first-hand), and so does Microsoft Movie Maker (I was told).)

If you want responses to this question, you might see if there isn't already a thread for that (search), and if not, then post the question in a new thread.

(I've seen a post asking for 3d Modelling software used, but not movie editing. I could be wrong...)

Hope this helps...

I've been fooling around with the shadows and lighting. Because the light comes from only one angle it requires a filmmaker to coordinate the set to the light. That aside, the effect can be interesting. In this test I had problems getting a smooth edge on the shadows and it would be nice to be able to direct individual lights on the cast. I also would like to try a backlight effect. Perhaps with the new version of 1.4 some of these will come to pass. I also used Adobe Premiere to dutch the angles.

This test is very short, with a feeble nod to "The Third Man". And many thanks to Fulkster for the end credit.

we have appointed a bit shoveller to create light from darkness, and cast shadows properly. it won't be quick, but the issue is very important to movie making and is being addressed.

I'd hope to extend this over time with additional lights, highlighting and "shadowing"

I just meant that whoever is making the film and more importantly the set has to tweak the set into the correct position in order to get the light to cast the shadows in the manner and position desired.

My use of the term filmmaker comes from old habits, always a reference to anyone making the film. (No experience required, only desire)

You should be able to move the directional light (angle and height) to put the shadows where you want them - easier than moving the set to fit the shadows.

Or am I missing something?

That's the ticket!

Re:Movie Posts?

Hi,

In a couple of weeks (17 May-20 May) is going to take in Barcelona the DiBa Festival (http://www.dibafestival.com/), a festival dedicated to digital cinema. It's mainly dedicated to the non animated cinema, but there is always place for computer animation. One of the most interesting activities is the DiBa Express (http://www.dibaexpress.com/):

DiBa is the festival that opens cinema to digital generation; a world, where new technologies promote creativity in the search for new directions. DiBa are five days and five nights with the most estimulating audiovisual programme.
Every year DiBa gives you the possibility to participate in an intense and immediate digital cinematographic experience: DiBa Express.
Use your camera, select your collaboration partners and plan, film and edit a short film (maximum 3 minutes long) in a record time of 72 hours, from a key word.
A filming weekend in Barcelona to bet your talent and enjoy the digital fest that DiBa brings you.
All DiBa Express shorts submitted will be showed during the festival.

So, the reason I'm writing this: I would like to participate with a Moviestorm film, is there any problem? Unfortunatelly I have not time to show you before I release the movie (only 72 hours!!).

Ah, of course everybody is invited to participate: do you need another excuse for a cheap travel to Barcelona? :P

Re:Movie Posts?

I?ve made a short film with the express purpose of testing Cameras and Angles. Overall I found the camera system very user friendly. My only real problem occurred when I try to track ahead or behind a character. I seem to keep putting in different lens sizes and positions for the camera. Those shots became jerky.

I find reviewing the camera angle in Moviestorm, does not always show what the end result will be. I have 1G of ram, but perhaps that is not enough for Moviestorm to show me a smoother idea of the final rendered product. A final render of each camera is the only way for me to see just what I?ve got.

That being said, the side tracking dolly shots and the push-ins worked just fine. Also the trees lend a greater reality since I can move my characters through the trees. Overall the graphics are very satisfying.

Finally, my last shot required a careful lineup of the camera with the characters. After doing it a couple of times it came out the way I wanted it to. (Not unlike doing it with a film camera on the set. I watched a similar shot done several years ago and it took about 10 takes to get it right.)

Looking forward to more pleasant surprises with 1.4

Thank you for the nice words. I agree the jumps are irritating. The graphics card is in my tower I believe is a VisionTek Radeon X1300. I just replaced it a year ago and was told it was a good for gaming. I redid the tracking shot many times to try to get the speed I wanted and I suspect some of the jumps are left overs from that. I did look at the filters but didn't see any artifacts left in that list.

As for the mods, I will scratch my ancient head and reconstruct the steps I used in the mod workshop. Of course I never took notes as I made them (like never reading the directions on a model car kit) but I'm sure I can work something up this weekend and post a new thread in the forums.

that track should indeed be smoother. We have a radeon x1300 in a test machine in the office and can easily test that.

for those who have delved into their folder structure, they will find the Moviestorm output files that "create the movie".

Had a think? Now think of those custom assets!

You can swap them with each other (within some reasonable limits). If you have a really nasty bug, we might like to ask you to PM / email the relevant file to us and then we can double check any key issues. Would that be ok?

"I don't ever want to see you again" (because you are the one who shot my friend)

This film falls firmly into the 'experimental' category, and not much happens plot-wise.

The project started out a chroma experiment, and I wanted to use some of the fight gestures.
Something suggested football hooligans and I had an eighties throw-back moment, this lead to a ska song by the Skampis, another track from Jamendo.

Things did not go to plan chroma wise and I started kicking the tracks around in the editor...adding some sims footage along the way (the chorus of bodyshop heads).

Hi Isi,

Yes, that's V 1.4 (and the expressions are easy to work with- a click on the character and follow the menus)... you're going to enjoy what Short Fuze has done with this version- really quite impressive with all the new expressions, I think. (There's still some fight things I want to look at, too.) I like the new look of the menus... much more to see with our choices. I also need to check out the prop-handing to see what's new. (I'm finally getting a bit of a handle on the camera manipulating.)

MRJoyce, I agree about Moviestorm's (Short Fuze's) bright future. This is something we are going to enjoy for a long time to come. We all need to spread the word to friends about how cool it is!

Thanks kkffoo... you know I look forward to seeing your work here!

Thanks DavidB... prayers and all for more cool things with Moviestorm. (Always looking ahead to the next release, aren't you? :P That's GREAT.) I'm enjoying being a tester with this... you've got a hard working crew there! (I'm still getting a couple new views every day for the movie I posted weeks ago ("Liaison")... it's had more views (400-something) than movies that have been up a year!) Without objections, I'll be posting "Expressions" on veoh.com

Nice.

Well, you said about the chromakeying, but what are they sitting on?
Is it a normal bench, obscured by some simple props to make it look like a tube seat? Or have you modded in some sitting bones into something? Or have I just missed something already in there?

Thanks everyone, and looking forward to your film Lucinda!

Ben, you know I only do this to drive you crazy

Attached sitting animations to dining chairs whilst these are unobscured (out in open)
Then used set workshop to slide the chairs into the simple-prop seat..(the animations moved with the chairs)
