Can I lay a person down on a prim_cube?

I also would like him to arch up towards the ceiling - but getting him to lay down first is my priority. Thanks.

I sugest having an invisible bed in a similar location to your prim cube.
If you use the double bed from the DomesticDrama02 pack, you can get the character laying down on the bed. You can then 'Hide' the bed at the start of the timeline, and position your cube in the same location.

Next question. How do I get him to lay flat (put his knee down)?

I'm not sure whether any of the in-bed positions are flat.
Another option you could use would be to place that magic navmesh from the talkshow pack on the prim, and have your character lie (or "die") on that. That might fix your problem.
