I want to make an animated prop (something simple) but I don't know how to get the male Moviestorm body into Fragmotion. I did it on my old computer but I forget how to do it. I downloaded JAM's pack, but what file do I use and how do I convert it?

I want to make an animated prop (something simple) but I don't know how to get the male Moviestorm body into Fragmotion.
Actually, for a solo animated prop, puppets are of no use.
Let's get things straight. From a modding point of view there are the following kinds of assets:
- Static props, with no animations
- Puppet animations, including:
- Gestures: animations intended to be able of merging with other puppet animations.
- Postures: usually imply a translation of the puppet's root bone
- Solo animated props: with animations, but with no relation at all with any puppet, including the autoprops or autoanimated props (props that automatically and repeatedly execute a specified animation as soon as they are placed on the set)
- Bodyparts: assets (including one or more meshes and materials), rigged to a puppet's skeleton, including:
- Heads, Wigs (hair, hats), beards and bodies
- Accessories, with no animations of their own.ç
- Held props, ie associated to any of the "grabbing" bones defined but with their own skeleton and animations. They move together with the puppet is associated with and can't exist independently.
- Interactive props: they exist independently of any puppets, but these can start some predefined interactions including some sorts of animations.
NOTE: a prop can behave as a solo animated prop and as an interactive prop, although not at the same time. - Interactions puppet-puppet
- Decals
- Materials: floor, wall and ceiling textures
- Special props: doors and windows, cars, chairs, lights, FX, etc, which have some specific attributes and animations
Also please take into account that any animated prop (solo, held, interactive) can also act as a pyroprop, ie, having associated particle fx.
So, what were thinking of creating?
I'd suggest you to start with some of the easiest assets to implement, ie: accessories, puppet's gestures and solo animated props.

You'll find them inside a file named 'Moviestorm - Skeletons and Puppets for Milkshape 3D (basic).zip',
Again, you'll only need them for:
- Puppet animations
- Accessories
- Interactive props

I was going to be making some money that in Moviestorm characters could handle and count the money. Would that be too complex?
Anyways, is there something REALLY easy to make that has some sort of animation that you could teach me how to do?
I really just want to make some sort of animated thing!
P.S. Thanks so much for all the help!

Yes that would be too complex to start out with. Follow this thread carefully and it will show you how to make a simple animated prop. That will get you started. But you MUST follow the steps carefully.

I see: that would be implemented either as a held or an interactive prop. I'd say, for someone who's beginning, that may be quite a complex task to get it done.
Again, for a start I'd suggest to try one of the easiest jobs:
- Accessories: hats, glasses, bracelets, whatever you can think of that can be weared or put on a puppet. I know, not animated but they always may come in handy
- Puppet gestures: I'm pretty sure, should you ever do some movie of some complexity, you've missed some animation you'd want your actor to perform
- Solo animated props: say a weather vane, a mill, some kind of swing, you name it.

I downloaded the .zip file and read the pdf but the link to the CAL3D export files is dead. Do I need those?

In fact, that tutorial by Chris was the reason I got into modding at last

I think I've got them somewhere. I'll provide you with a link.
EDIT: got them. This is a link to folder with a couple of tutorials by Chris Ollie:

Okay, say I want to do an object (I need some ideas!) that rotates, (just like the star you made) how would I do that. Would I use Fragmo or Milkshape and how would I do that?

If you've got FragMotion, I would go for it. No doubt. Period.
First thing, you'll need to get the model into your modding tool. You're given two options:
- Creating the model inside the modding tool you've chosen from scratch
- Importing a model into your modding platform. For example, Sketchup can export 3D models to both the OBJ and 3DS formats, which can be imported into FragMotion.
If required, create and apply materials.
Then, animate the model, that is:
- Create the skeleton
- Rigging time: associate every model vertex with one or more bones
- Create animation(s)
Easy, ain't it?

Oh okay! I thought you would have to convert like a million files and stuff.

One thing, Lewis: festina lente ("make haste slowly").
Please please follow carefully the tutorials, as recommended by Prima. Things will come by themselves with time, experience, patience, study and commitment.

I just bought Milkshape 3D (I had been thinking about purchasing it for a while now) as my trial has expired. I had used it a lot for those 30 days.
One of the first steps in the tutorial is copying the Cal3d files into the Milkshape Program Files folder. What files are those? The cal3d.dll and/or the msCal3D.dll?

First check you have pressed the anim button in the bottom right and second make sure you have typed in the number of frames for your animation in the total frames box in the right hand corner.
