I'm not a huge fan of this genre, but it shouldn't be excluded from the line-up.

Bringing Up Baby
The Lady Eve
The Palm Beach Story
There's Something About Mary
Say Anything
High Fidelity
Love Actually
Choose Me
What's up, Doc?
Closer

Even though "Closer" isn't technically a romantic comedy, I think Clive Owen is particularly hilarious in it.

All right...show me.

Green Card. Especially the bit where Depardieu plays the piano.

Love Actually

Fantastic film biggrin.gif

About a Boy was great too, although I'd say that's a borderline title.

"Love Actually" made me an absolute fan of Bill Nighy.

I think "About a Boy" is Hugh Grant's best performance, thus far.

Possibly great:
'When Harry met Sally'
'Groundhog Day'
'Four Weddings and a Funeral'

Dont suck, although maybe not actually great:
'How to lose a guy in ten days'
'Two weeks notice' (very nice premise on why they dont just sleep together at the start of the movie)

And something that might not quite fall into the category, as it is possibly a tradegy rather than a traditional romantic comedy, but I still realy liked:
'Jeux d'enfants' ('Love me if you Dare' was the title in the UK)

My top vote is for Roman Holiday. Others that worked where The Philadelphia Story, Harold and Maude... would The Princess Bride be considered a romantic comedy?

Oh, and we can't forget Saw III - I laughed and I cried.

Ooooh, now that's not an easy one. I love films that don't fit into any readily identifiable genre. Any rate, Princess Bride is a damned fine movie. (The book's pretty damned good as well.)

Shaun of the Dead. Definitely great, and I'm arguing that it is (sort of) a romantic comedy.

The tagline (at least, on the DVD case) is: "A romantic comedy. With zombies."

Oh GREAT call on on Palm Beach Story, filmfreak! You have a nice list there.

May I add a few of my favorites:

Charade

Roman Holiday(not necessarily hilarious but it has it's moments...not to mention being just a fun film)

Adam's Rib

The Apartment- One of my all time favorites

My Man Godfrey

...Thats all that come to mind at the moment. smile.gif

Thanks docontheweb. It's always nice to find other Preston Sturges fans out there.

The Apartment, and My Man Godfrey are solid choices as well.

Eddz gets credit for a double tap. Shallow Hal counts as both a rom com and a guilty pleasure. biggrin.gif

Yep, some good calls in there, Chris. For someone who doesn't think they like romcoms, you've listed quite a few films I adore, such as:

Seven Year Itch
Some like it Hot
Edward Scissorhands
Corpse Bride
Princess Bride

And now I've also remembered I like Clueless, though maybe that should be in the Guilty Pleasures section......
