We’re very proud to announce that we’ve been chosen as sponsors for Fantastic Arcade in Austin, Texas, in September.

Fantastic Arcade is part of Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the United States, featuring the best in new science-fiction, fantasy, horror, animation, crime, Asian, and all around badass cinema. Last year, they featured the premiere of Zombieland, as well as special screenings of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and The Men Who Stare At Goats. Fantastic Arcade is a new independent games festival, running concurrently with the first four days of Fantastic Fest, September 23-26, 2010. It’s all ages until 6pm, then over-18 only for evening events.

We’re sponsoring the machinima competition as well as the other games tournaments. Teams will have just 48 hours to make a machinima movie, starting on Friday, Sept 10. (The organisers have confirmed that Moviestorm is classed as a game engine for the purposes of this contest.) Prizes include a bunch of top Dell gear, plus Moviestorm goodies including free subscriptions and packs

See Moviestorm News for more info.

The machinima contest takes place ahead of the festival, so that the winners can be screened at Fantastic Arcade. And actually go to it, not spend the entire festival locked in a room making movies smile.gif

So... September 3rd? For the machinima-making portion? You have September 10th listed. You haven't actually answered my question. And if it is September 3rd then you need to change the date so people who want to participate don't miss it.

You're right, it's confusing - they have both variants on their website:

Sept. 3rd mentioned here:
http://fantasticfest...0/schedule/week

And Sept. 10th here:
http://www.fantastic...cade/machinima/

I guess the date was changed at some point, but it wasn't corrected on the website...
To me it looks like the valid date is now Sept. 10th? unsure.gif

I got this from the Festival organiser today:

"Correct date is definitely September 10. Thanks for pointing this out!"

There you have it. Sept 10 it is.

Well spotted!

My entry (The Bone Orchard) into the competition is a semi-finalist!

Kinda weird to see that the engines used for the semi-finalists.

  • Halo 3
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Half Life 2
  • Red Dead Redemption

I shouldn't think you'll need too much luck with that calibre of entry though - here's hoping!

Great movie Jorge!

I'm kind of guessing that whoever used Red Dead Redemption also drew the 'Western' category... laugh.gif

Fingers crossed for the Bone Orchard, though!
