Hello All,
Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong. I am trying to create a simple newspaper prop. I create and extrude a rectangle in Sketchup and then import a graphic image of a newspaper page I created in Paint.net. I have tried .png .bmp .jpg files. I save it as Sketchup 6 and import it into Moviestorm set scalable, publish etc.
When I select the prop in Moviestorm it comes up as a black rectangle unless I increase the scale to max, then shows up fine. So my newspaper looks fine as long as it is the size of a car.
Any ideas ?
Thank You

Does it look right if you move your viewpoint really close to it, and then the texture breaks as you move further away?
If that is the case, then the problem is with the texture and how mip-maps are being generated.

Hello Ben,
I have tried putting the paper on the set and zooming into look at it but it is just a black rectangle unless I increase the scale in the set workshop to the max, literally the size of a car. If I do that the image shows up. Anything smaller and it is just a black image.

I have had the same problem until I converted all my textures into DDS files. There is a free program called Paint Net that you can use to do this. And then go back into the Modders Workshop and choose the DDS file for the texture.

I use png images if I want part of it to be invisible, like adding a butterfly to a square prim or box otherwise I use jpeg images. Are you adding the newspaper image through the paint bucket or are you importing the image? I've found that importing an image will make it not show up in Moviestorm, but if you add it through the paint bucket by - as an example - click on the paint bucket, a window will appear where you can choose different textures - click "Create Material" button - Upload image - locate your image on your computer - type in the dimensions you want - then add the image to your object. The image may be offset so you'll have to move the object until the image is where you want it. Then select your object, cut it and paste it so that your object is centered. Then save it as a sketchup 6 file and import it through Modders Workshop.

I hope that helps. smile.gif

Lucinda I tried your suggestion. I converted to a dds file went into Modders Workshop and used the Texture Wizard to select the dds file, republished it and I still have the same problem. Maybe I missed something.
squirrleygirl I tried your suggestion in Sketchup. Everything looked good until I imported it into Modders Workshop. I end up with the same problem, no image until I increase the scale to max.
Does anyone know if I can use a prim and place it on the floor or a table and add an image to make it look like a newspaper ?
Thanks

Yes you can but it might look a bit flat. Going back to your original problem, what scale is your original sketchup model relative to the Sketchup human figure? I had a table which caused issues until DavidWWW pointed out it was 14,000 metres long in SketchUp wink.gif

The model in Sketchup is approx 16"x10"x1/4" and looks correct compared to the human figure.
I am wondering if the problem could be my computers, laptop and desktop both running Windows 7 but at the lower end of Graphics and processor. I applied the image to a prim and it looked black until I scaled the prim larger. Might be time to build a new computer.

I guess it could be the graphics but it sounds like something to do with the way the UV mapping to the mesh is happening.
One other possibility that occurs to me is that perhaps the backface is facing front?

If you want to send me the image I can probably create the newspaper for you using milkshape.
