This felt like quite a tough one to make.
I don't have any personal experience of losing a close relative to military service, but this song really spoke to me.

In The Rain

QUOTE
Dennis Caraher is a singer/songwriter from Northampton, Massachusetts.
http://www.radioboymusic.com/about-2/
His haunting track 'In the Rain', chronicles the effects of the loss of soldier son, on his family, and in particular the son's father.
In just three and half minutes Dennis chronicles the loss, guilt and family breakdown precipitated by a far off war.
The father's depression is captured in the endless rain, which falls in his heart, as well as on the 'Kansas Mud'.
I hope I have honoured at least some of the songwriter's intent in this short film - Kate

Moviestorm notes.

The rain effect came from a combination of the special effects weather rain and Moviestorm's 'water on the lens' filter.
The rain and reflections in the titles were made using the free program sqirlz.

edit: Poulet Noir...I forgot your credit for the scrolling backgrounds, I'm so sorry. I went back and put them in to improve the ambulance scene after I thought I had finished, and forget to amend the credits. I can't face opening up this file again just now.
If anyone else is without a credit could you let me know, thanks.

So that's two terrific movies in two weeks!

Are you using some sort of performance enhancing drugs?

I really liked the lightning effect - I'm wondering how the heck you did that...

Thank you Iain!!

We have 'had the builders in'.
One memorable day the kids and I were trapped upstairs for most of the day, other days not quite so bad, but the garden is looking absolutely awful!! (because of the rain and the builders it has been neglected, my son refuses to go in parts of it..he says there are things that lurk)

The lightning, and the train, came with a model railway simulator called mts 2011. I filmed inside that program using fraps, then used a movie screen inside ms to film the guy against.

I threw a lot of these type of scenes away....one I was quite proud of where I got a ms lamp to flicker on the ms props in time with the lightning, but glow in the dark trees in the background ruined the shot.

Excellent video, Kate! I really like the mood of the piece. It matches the song perfectly.

Two movies in two weeks? That's it. Put down the cup and step away from the energy drink. smile.gif

Well for God's sake persuade your hubby that you need an entire new west wing, if your last 3 movies are the result of inspiring builders' bums! wink.gif

I hope we see some of these in the Expo!

Thank you for another great one :-) Loved the artistic choices, from start to finish; And thanks for giving details about it's structure,
background and intent behind the MS mechanics of the video too.

Not only was "In the Rain" visually stunning and featured a haunting soundtrack, but it had an emotional and moral impact as well. Hard to reap top scores on all these fronts, but this one managed it.
