Yes there were only 8 crew in total with the commander standing in the front hatch, and she was 4 ft 3 from hull top to bottom, I don't think the hull would have been thicker than 1 inch so 4ft is a pretty good guesstimate. She was also narrower than she was tall, which might be why it looks more roomy.

Yeah, knew those sites, and found also another one by a guy trying a reconstruction of the Hunley. Although some of his claims might be somehow controversial, there are lots of interesting information there.
As for the dimensions and general shape, I'm going to make the hull a bit narrower, but I think the height is almost correct.
Also I've found an excellent model of the Hunley, including a very detailed interior. I won't use it as given, for it's far too complex for our purposes and very high in the poly count, but I'll take many of its parts "borrowed" for the model I'm working on.
