The Graveyard book by Neil Gaiman. I loved it, really easy to visualise ideas. I love Neil Gaiman's work. You ought to friend him on Facebook. I friended him. He might be interested in having an animated movie made of his book. -------------------- |

The Chance is set in a situation a sort of post-alien Earth where we are offered a chance to become someone else via a lottery.. although alien promises are never exactly fulfilled in the way that they are desired this is just the backdrop of the story. I remember this story. Very original and moving. It would make a great MS movie. |

I haven't seen this thread ever.. but if anyone really wants to know; There is an Australian Writer Peter Carey and although some of his longer works have become huge films, his short stories are much more appealing to me because of how the atmosphere had hit me. Out of the book titled "The Fat Man in History" there are two stories I would much love to see done as film one is called "The Chance" and the other "The Last Days of a Famous Mime" The Chance is set in a situation a sort of post-alien Earth where we are offered a chance to become someone else via a lottery.. although alien promises are never exactly fulfilled in the way that they are desired this is just the backdrop of the story. .............................. I would however suggest even other works within the collection of short stories such as "Exotic Pleasures" (also based in a post-alien Earth) And the enigmatic Kafkaesque "Do You Love Me?" where the things ignored (including but not limited to people) eventually disappear including huge portions of the map.. written from the perspective of a cartographer's son. I really like the story of "The Chance". You ought to contact him and see if he would like it made into a movie. -------------------- |

Lucinda, I think you and Kibishipaul are right, it would make an interesting MS project, and maybe I should look into looking up Peter Carry and at the very least ASK, after all, it couldn't hurt. Still if anyone else would do it as a project, it IS a very good story.. isn't it? -------------------- "move along, nothing to see here; these are not the droids you are looking for..."

Since he writes science fiction, I will ask my science fiction friends, many of whom are authors if they know him. -------------------- |

I've always thought the Laidlaw books by William McIlvanney would make an excellent tv series if done correctly, much more entertaining and poignant than Rebus
Any non-Scottish person probably won't have a clue what I'm on about lol -------------------- "I can post as much as I want here... I am not going to leave here, not going to stop talking and not going to stop making movies"

Back in the early 1980's I ran across a book that caught my eye due to it's geographical locations (the city I grew up in and surrounding area). Turns out, this was book #31 of a 38 book series called 'The Executioner' by Don Pendelton. The story is basically about an Army sniper in Vietnam who gets called home to bury his family after his father kills everyone. After doing some research, Mack Bolan learns that his father was pushed over the edge by the Mafia. He then goes on a one-man war against the mafia using the tactics he has learned in the Army and from studying Mafia tactics.
The series eventually went on starting with book 39 to change from going after the Mafia (he basically ended the reign of the American Mafia in the first 38 books) to fighting global terrorism (with a name change from The Executioner to Mack Bolan). The series is now up to book 389, with 253 other combined/super novel books (there were 2 spin-off series that joined forces on occassion). There have been some minor attempts to make films similar to the original story but no one has ever been able to make it more than a glorified cartoon. I would take on the task if I had more patience and resources. -------------------- The Harb40 Passion Competition now has it's own website.

There have been so many great books I have read that would make amazing movies but never get the attention they so deserve. Ones like Empire or Bastard Son. So what book, Short Story, Comic, etc. would be great to become the next movie adaption?

I think about this all the time. I love to read and there are so many books out there that never get made into TV series or movies while the same old plots keep getting made over and over (I must say though thanks to series like Dexter, Weeds, Californication - this season is better than the last few). I always wonder why none of them get made into movies or series. SO what book would you like to do? I would like to do The Giver by Lois Lowry. |
