I tried setting each mood in turn in full, rotating through all 6, Sad, Fear, etc. Mad got a little bit of dumb face, surprised opened her eyes a bit with a little gape mouth, and disgust got narrow eyes. This is with every thing set on full, full melo, full expression, etc. All look very little different from the blank face. Am I doing something wrong?

Try turning off melodrama and expression in the characters inventory, and then click on the character and select change mood and adjust the mood you want eg anger this places a small face on the time line, remember that if the character has added speech the mood dissappears and they have their default exprssion back until the speech finishes, then it reverts back to your selected mood. I've attached a screenshot of the standard face position, and the same face with the Anger slider set to full. Is this the same as what you're seeing?
It's worth noting that there are several gestures that have facial expressions that are more exaggerated than those you can get using the expression sliders. Also, Expressiveness and Melodrama only affect the character's improvised movements, and have no bearing on their facial expression. -------------------- ---------------------------

Seems the red hair on the puppet was the problem. I used the 4th face (Euro asian, I think it said) with the haircut in the above screenshot, with the red hair. After changing to black hair, I got more reponse, but it's still not very detailed. Only the mouth and eyes move, no cheek muscles, nose, etc.
I'll just have to wait for a patch, I guess, for all the combinations to work. The effect I am looking for is for the puppet to be running, face full of fear to the point of tears running freely. I may have to cinepaint parts of that in, though. -------------------- |

Hmm, that's weird. I've tested your hair theory, and it doesn't make a difference for me. I thought it might have had something to do with one of the old face types as well, but they all seem to display roughly the same change in expression (Some more than others, though). Looking at the expressions, however, I do think that they could do with being a bit more exaggerated. That's what the sliders are for, after all.
If you want your character to look afraid, your best bet is one of the Frightened gestures. Head > Mouth > Frightened Scream (Hands Out) should give you the facial expression you're looking for. If you want it to last longer, you can extend the gesture a little (Although bear in mind that once you extend it past twice its original size, it will split into two gestures). To hold the expression for an extended period, you can keep adding the same gesture over and over, and position them so that each one overlaps the one before it slightly, so that her expression doesn't return to normal between each one. Hope that makes sense. -------------------- ---------------------------

I've noticed the happy, sad and fear gestures had little change to the facial expressions unlike the other three.
Melodrama and expressiveness controls the frequency and how many gestures characters automatically make. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with manually-made gestures and facial moods. -------------------- [witty signature pending]
