Is it possible for a teacher to create a starter movie to be used by a class? As we start to integrate MovieStorm into some of the classes, it would be great if we could set up the senario and then have the students go to a specific tab at the start of the program to get a custom template. All they would need to do is follow a few prompts to record their narration and they would be off and running. This would run more like a tutorial prompting students for information and them putting the movie together.

Yes. Just create a movie with everything you require, then save it, distribute that saved movie to the class and they should be able to open it and go from there. If you stop and save at various 'teaching points' as you go along you can gradually lead them through the steps.

Yes as Writerly stated this is quite possible.

Its not only possible to have a template movie in the load page but it is possible to have your movie appear under 'starter movie' in the 'new movie' section If thats what you require. The problem is its a little fiddly to do that specifically. especially if you have to do it to every student workstation as well. Basically if you want to do that you have to create a new folder in the 'addon' folder in your moviestorm install then follow these steps;

1. in the new folder, create a folder called 'movies'
2. Add your movie into this folder
3. Open the folder of the movie and open Movie.summary
4. at the bottom of the page, in between </personnel> and </moviesummary> , insert the line <section>Starter Movies</section>

I told you it was a little fiddly. So I would definitely suggest a more convenient means of sharing your templates. If you have a network drive then a folder containing all the templates would be perfect as just dropping a movie in there would be instantly ready for the students to retrieve it as they start the lesson. It may help to have a shortcut to the user movies folder on each workstation (the folder Moviestorm saves movies to) so they can conveniently share movies to you and one another. Remember your user movie folder is located here:

Vista, Win7, Macs: [Username]/Moviestorm
WinXP: C:/Documents and Settings/[Username]/Moviestorm

We are very keen to get teachers sharing their own movies and lesson plans with one another to collaborate on ideas and progress each project. At the moment its all on here (the education forum) so if you make a template movie for a lesson with your students then please post the idea on here and send us the movie (email me at alex(dot)gowland(at)moviestorm(dot)co(dot)uk. remember to replace (dot) and (at) with . and @)

This is important as we are striving to create our own set of educational starter movies that will come as part of moviestorm and we can only do it with the collaboration of the educators.

Kind Regards,
Alex
