I have a volcano and I can scale up the fire effect prop as big as I need by editing the Mscope but the particles are all but invisible to the camera from the other side of the grid due to their small size comparatively.

I may have to get creative with prims but I thought I'd ask here first.

I would like to know the same thing because I need explosions and fire in Vautrin and don't always want to use greenscreen.

If you look in your "SpecialEffects/Data/FX" addon, you will find a folder of sprites and a bunch of MPS files. The sprites are al DDs, and the MPS can be edited in text edit.

Might want to back up first. Study the MPS files, and see if you can find a size in there. There just XML like so many things in MS. Good luck!

So it can be done then?

fingers crossed that when I start playing with it in the morning (uh...didn't sound right), it'll do what I want. (eh...That's even worse).

If anyone know specifically what needs to be changed feel free to blow your own horn.

(Just keeps sounding worse...I'm going to bed).

Oh, but here is a video of what it looks like. The texture will be changing a bit but I had to start somewhere. smile.gif

Well my son apparently knows XML so he's going to be helping me figure it out.

Thanks for the finger...uh...to point the way... definitely need more sleep. ohmy.gif

Your video looks great. When you figure out how to make the particles larger, let me know please. My husband knows XML so I can probably talk him into helping me out.

Thanks, Lucinda.

Here is my first attempt at altering particles. My son got me started on it this morning before I left for work.

I like it except that the particles are moving too fast. I believe they are trying to travel the longer distance in the same timeframe so they're moving faster as a result. I've messed around with a few of the time settings trying to find the solution with no luck and my son's asleep right now, though he may not know anyway.

If anyone knows how to slow them down please let me know.smile.gif

Lucinda, when it looks right I'll post the MPS file I did this to. I wouldn't have a clue how to explain it.

Looks good!
If you didn't need puppets in the shot, you could probably just scale the size of the volcano down to make it look better with the particles...

It looks fantastic. That is just what I need for vautrin. Are you going to be able to release these enlarged particles as an addon?

Its just an mps file edit. Anyone can do it. I just changed some numbers that tell MS what to do with the particles.

I've attached the edited mps file as a txt file since the forums wouldn't allow it as .mps.

The actually filename is Bonfire_Large.mps and I'm still working on it.

I've also attached a screenshot. I'll upload a video as soon as I can get to the upload section.smile.gif

It is really looking good right now. I may be able to reduce the number of emitter props and up the scale of the remaining ones now to free up a bit of memory for the smoke.

Note that MS is feeling on the verge of a crash due to the number of particles being rendered.

Also note that any changes you make to this file can crash MS. Setting values too small, even if it doesn't affect flame size, can result in no flame while too large can keep MS from being able to load it.
A typo (which is easier than I expected when changing numeric values), can really mess with your results so take baby steps all the way through editing, testing the output after every change so it's easier to see what the affects are and fix undesired ones.

Thanks Corthew, that helps a lot. For the bombing of the buildings, I had better use greenscreen because the collapsing buildings are very high poly but for scenes where I only show a bomb falling and exploding it would work fine.

Wow! Corthew, you have done a great job. A new type of MS modding is born.
