Although Moviestorm isn’t as good as PoserPro, I can’t understand why some praise Poser and refuse to watch a Moviestorm video. On one web site I even posted one of Moviestorm’s best (the girl on the tightrope) and couldn’t get a comment as to what’s wrong with it or did anyone like it.

I posted a documentary made with Moviestorm (no puppets) and it was well received on that web site. The puppet ones are rarely viewed and the comments are mostly, “I should try Maya or Poser.”

I like Moviestorm and the results, but I hate spending months to make a movie that only I could sit through.

The following received high praise on that web site. (I suggest fast forwarding through the first half).

I think one person watched mine and no comment. The second video. (Here it got about 20 views.)

I could be wrong, but I guess it's his animation that makes his worth watching.

Opinions?

I don't think anyone has mentioned that the difference between Moviestorm and DAZ3d Studio, Poser or any other rendering program is that the figures in those programs probably have 10-12 thousand polygons per figure, as well as much more detail in the set design, compared to perhaps 1500-2000 in one of the moviestorm figures. I'm just guessing, but that's about what a Sims 3 character has and Moviestorms's characters are similar.

Movestorm is pretty much a real time rendering program compared to the others which take hours to render even relatively short animations.
A 15 minute movie in Moviestorm could take days to render in Daz Studio or Poser.

These programs are designed for 3d game design and commercial advertising. Everything is oriented toward realism. That kind of detail is just not possible with a real time animation program like Moviestorm.
It's no big surprise that high quality 3d animation movies like Pixar or Dreamworks cost multimillions to produce.

Moviestorm should not be compared negatively with Poser, Daz, 3d Max or any other rendering program. They are two completely different worlds.
The only other similar programs would be Iclone and the old "The Movies" game. Or maybe the Sims, which is not designed for machinima but is certainly used for it.

Iclone is a little better graphically than Moviestorm and allows you to create animations on the fly, but the content for the program is far more expensive.

So, basically, MS only has two other programs in its class, The Movies game, which is graphically inferior, and the Sims which is about the same graphically but has infinitely more content available, but is not a machinima program by design.

Thanks. I was watching a Daz3d animation tutorial yesterday. The person was showing how to do a short 15 second animation. When it came time to do the rendering, he stated that it took 9 hours to render it at 30 frames per second. 9 hours!! The same fifteen second animation is basically instant in Moviestorm. For that kind of difference you pay a price in graphic detail.

To me, Moviestorm is a more sophisticated version of the old Lionheart game "The Movies." Of course, it has a lot of uses as teaching tool and story board maker for professionals. But for me, it's just a toy. Something to use to tell stories with. it's expensive, no doubt, when used for that purpose, but not really more than say, the Sims 3, with all it's expansions, which I also own.

Anyway, I just wanted to put things into perspective. I didn't buy Moviestorm yet. I don't have the patience to deal with the memory leak issue, but the short time I used it convinced me that, at heart, it's basically a good program. I'm just waiting for the leak issue to be fixed before I spend $225 for it. I'm the kind of person that wants everything a program has to offer so I can't just buy SOME content..

I wouldn't agree that it is expensive e.g. look at something like MS Office 2010 Professional which gives me much less pleasure, and I spend more on coffee and doughnuts a week than I do on MS wink.gif
Also, unlike many people I don't seem to suffer from the memory lags much, but maybe that's because I have an attention span of 19.5 minutes wink.gif
When you look at what some people can achieve with MS e.g. http://www.moviestormblog.com/index.php/mo...gth_test_movie/
it really is "No contest" in terms of its class.
