Is there any way to currently create films in 2.35:1 (1920x817) Anamorphic Scope Aspect Ratio?

Hi procureagent,
If I understand correctly, and Anamorphic Scope Aspect Ratio doesn't require a compression of the source material (so matching the output size only and not any image distortion), then it should be possible to achieve with an external editor. You should be able to export your Moviestorm footage at 1920x1080 (if your graphics card and monitor allow this resolution) and then crop the output height to 817pixels, giving you the correct aspect ratio. In reality, I believe that there are more elements to take into account, but hopefully that will give you a solution that's in the right ball-park. Amos -------------------- Amos Willbond

I had attempted that, but it didn't look right, and doesn't allow proper framing when creating the source footage on MS. I just thought that different frame size options would be a great feature (ie. 1.33:1 Academy Standard, 1.85:1 Academy Flat, 2.35:1 Anamorphic). If creating PreViz, and know the film is to be 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio, it would allow better PreViz creation at the required Aspect Ratio in MS.

Ah, I think I understand what you mean...
You are trying to frame a 2.35:1 shot using the tools within Moviestorm? If that's the case, have you considered putting marks on your monitor that roughly show the letterbox crop? I know it seems to be old-school, but you may find it easier to frame your shots in this way, knowing that you are going to trim the screen area after import? -------------------- Amos Willbond

If this is the only option I will consider doing so, but I just wondered if this was a feature that exists, or is being considered. Thank you for the input

That would be a good feature request, to be able to turn on guide lines in camera view that shows you where the crop lines would be for different aspect ratios. Then you would be able to more accurately frame your shots.

It would only require a cosmetic change. I would think a small bit of code. I imagine it displaying like the "rule of thirds" lines that are currently on there, these would replace them, since the placement of the rule lines would change with each ratio. Then you would need a drop menu to select which ratio you want (or an advanced settings tab near the camera view window, or whatever). If they wanted to, they could even have each option contain both the crop lines and the rule lines for each ratio. -------------------- |

I was thinking just the standard camera window as it is now but marked along the left and right edges with the top and bottom positions for each ratio based on some standard render resolution. 4:3 or equivalent I'd assume. -------------------- Sango: "If it was really a miracle everyone would have been saved."

Yeah, it's a great idea.
I'll add it to the features request list. A -------------------- Amos Willbond

Well, I had a go - it is just a mask over the camera view (and the cutting room camera view) - Moviestorm still renders in 16:9.
The ratio options are configurable so that if one wants a ratio not yet listed, one can add it.

It's a beautiful thing! Perfectly acceptable that it would render in 16:9 , but this would take the guesswork out of framing so when you crop the video it looks right.
Thanks Ben! -------------------- |

Drop down is next to Camera Icon at top. -------------------- "I have had the same problem with getting the wheels to rotate properly with animated cars. I have no dropdown menu inside cutting room. Have you added any shots to the timeline in the Camera View? -------------------- "I have had the same problem with getting the wheels to rotate properly with animated cars. Yes, several. Looks like the problem is that you have an older version of the software, when you start it up does it say:- Moviestorm 1.5.3 release 29994, 24 Sept 2012? I have two versions and the older one does not have the aspect ratio dropdown. -------------------- "I have had the same problem with getting the wheels to rotate properly with animated cars.
