Went to a saved scene and tried to open it only to get this message:
C:\Users\Alonzo\Moviestorm\Movies\Val EP3\movie.mscope (The system cannot find the file specified) And found this in the LOG: QUOTE Loading movie Val EP3 java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Users\Alonzo\Moviestorm\Movies\Val EP3\movie.mscope (The system cannot find the file specified) at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:106) at mscope.persistence.MachinimascopeStream.loadImpl(MachinimascopeStream.java:248) at mscope.persistence.MachinimascopeStream.load(MachinimascopeStream.java:259) at mscope.things.Movie$MovieSummary.loadMovie(Movie.java:1297) at mscope.ui.moviewizard.Util.loadMovie_impl(Util.java:97) at mscope.ui.moviewizard.Util.access$000(Util.java:20) at mscope.ui.moviewizard.Util$1.run(Util.java:37) at java.util.concurrent.Executors$RunnableAdapter.call(Executors.java:441) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask$Sync.innerRun(FutureTask.java:303) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask.run(FutureTask.java:138) at java.util.concurrent.Executors$RunnableAdapter.call(Executors.java:441) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask$Sync.innerRun(FutureTask.java:303) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask.run(FutureTask.java:138) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.runTask(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:886) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:908) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) What does this mean besides the obvious and in short: Is this file pretty much corrupted and shot? S.N - The autosave loader which was available in prior versions would be quite the quell in headaches like this... -------------------- |

The same thing happened to me the other day with one of my scenes for Vautrin and I looked in the folder and the mscope file was missing. I don't know what caused this. I tried using one of the bak files and renaming it as a mscope file but that didn't work either.

I would suggest that the first thing you do is to backup (ie copy) the folder for that movie.
Then, try one of the backups (the newest, would be the place to start). Rename the newest of the mscope.bak1, mscope.bak2 etc files to movie.mscope (there may be a broken file already called movie.mscope, but Moviestorm is reporting a file not found when trying to open it, so it might not be there). Then try again to load it. Hopefully the backup version will load. -------------------- Ben Sanders

That is good to hear. We still dont know what causes the movie.mscope to go away - if it happens again, the first thing to try is to use the 'resume' option on the front page - if that works, save it again asap. The movie that the 'resume' option gets is the last one you had open, so you lose that backup if you load any other movies first.
The mscope.bak options are created whenever you save your movie - the previous save is kept as a a backup file. -------------------- Ben Sanders

Issue with that particular method, is hitting 'Resume' seems to be a 'hit-or-miss' with me.
On some scenes I could Resume from where I left off, other scenes I get a large error tag. Also sometimes I notice that during a scene I'll get a pop up saying something along the lines of the scene was unable to autosave. Maybe that could attribute to the issue? EDIT: Actually here's my LOG file from this morning. I do believe at one point, I had encountered the Resume issue...

Log files are cleared each time you start Moviestorm.
Failing to autosave is a bad sign, and probably indicates that Moviestorm is running low on memory. -------------------- Ben Sanders

I am bumping this thread, as I'm experiencing the same problem with my scene. I am working in Moviestorm Educational Unlimited 1.5.2 on a Mac Pro 3,1 (Snow Leopard 10.6.8, ATI HD 5870).
I started up a new scene, and every time I save a new version, using "save as..." it seems to work fine. I get the "movie saved!" message. When I try to load this scene, I get the "failed to load" message. Time to investigate! In finder, I navigated to the custom folder I setup where my project files are, and what do you know....there is no movie.mscope file present. I did this a few more times - saved the scene again as a new version - and the movie.mscope file is not being created. I only have the mscope.bak file, which I have to copy and rename to movie.mscope to get my scene to reopen. I also noticed the following, which could be an important clue to the problem I'm having. For my test scene, I created a new file structure on my hard drive and saved my projects there. What seems to be happening is, any time I save a new MS scene to a folder that is NOT the default MS folder (users/myname/Moviestorm/Movies/) the movie.mscope file does not get created. When I save the project file to the default directory, the movie.mscope file does indeed get created. I tested this a few times, and the same thing happened each time - it was repeatable. Is this normal behavior - that the MS project file absolutely has to be created in the default directory to work properly? If so, this is a big problem, as my students will be saving, and working from, networked drives, not the default local folder that MS creates. Thanks in advance for your help! Jeff EDIT: The above problem is NOT occurring on my Windows version of Moviestorm (Educational Unlimited 1.5.2). I did the exact same steps - setup a custom folder on another hard drive - and the movie.mscope file was successfully created and loaded up fine. This appears to be a Mac-only problem. |

With Ben's guidance, I was able to fix the problem I was having.
Again, the problem was that Moviestorm was not creating the movie.mscope project file any time I saved my project to the non-default directory (/users/username/Moviestorm) on my Mac Pro OSX. The fix basically came down to resetting where Moviestorm looks to save/load its files by default. Here's my steps for the fix, and I hope it helps anyone out who is having the same issue! 1) Download RCEnvironment 1.4 (free): http://www.rubicode.com/Software/Bundles.html#RCEnvironment 2) Install the .prefPane file in your System Preferences, and then set the following info: In System Preferences > Other > Environment Variables > for "Variable" enter MOVIESTORM_PROFILE, and for "Value" enter (folder where you want your Moviestorm projects to be saved to). For me, I entered /Volumes/Media/Moviestorm. 3) Log out of the Mac, and then log back in. 4) Launch Moviestorm. You may need to enter your login/password again. 5) Create a new scene, add props, any content (as a text case), and then click the Save icon. When you do so, Moviestorm will now default to the directory specified above in step 2. 6) Save the file. When you navigate to the folder where you saved the file, you'll notice that the movie.mscope file was successfully created. You can now load up the file as normal. Good to go! Sent you an email about it.
