I would love to see the Tony Hillerman books made into a series -- sort of how the BBC did with the Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett. The entire Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee series is outstanding.

Iain Banks "The Bridge" and Alasdair Gray's "Lanark" would both be a huge test of an MS director's abilities.
But I think they (especially "The Bridge") could be superb in this medium. There is actually a model of the Forth Bridge in the Google Warehouse if anyone is feeling adventurous

Oh, and in a more Western note...
...How's John Williams' "Butcher's Crossing" for a book? Just read it, thought it was great. Oh, and have I mentioned "Scott Pilgrim?" I mean, I knew the books before they were popular. And before I knew they were actually making a movie based on them. And for comic books "Gotham Central". Based on the Batman universe, but it's more cop-story. It's basically The Dark Knight with Batman never being on-screen and taking a back seat to the police department. EDIT: Oh... oh, god, I know. "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. I swear, it's the best book I've read. Though I haven't read too many books, but still. I doubt it'll ever be topped. -------------------- |

I don't know if you're aware of the Bum trilogy by Andy Griffiths, but I think that would be an awesome set of books to make into a trilogy of kids movies.
since just calling it the 'bum trilogy' would make it hard to find  the first one is 'the day by bum went psycho' (no, i'm not making these up  ), 'Zombie Bums from Uranus' and 'Bumageddon: the Final Pongflict'. I have and read all 3. Great books for children with a quirky sense of humor.

I am reading a really good book called Death Match by Lincoln Childs. This would make an excellent movie. Very exciting and mysterious. It is about AI and a company. Eden, that uses AI to match couples for romantic purposes. Of these couples, 6 are Super Couples who have 100% compatibility matches. A week apart, these couples begin dying, supposedly of double suicides. I am really surprised that this has not been optioned for a movie.

Vicinity Cluster (the whole Cluster series actually and/or the Of Man and Manta series) by Piers Anthony.
To Your Scattered Bodies Go (the whole Riverworld series actually) by Philip José Farmer Time Enough for Love and/or Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlien. There is a Dutch writer, Arthur Japin, with amazing! books...
Especially 2 I've read, "Een schitterend gebrek" and "De zwarte met het witte hart", they are both translated in English. The first translated into "In Lucia's Eyes" though I've heard that it sucks in English, bad translation, but a movie based on the Dutch version would be awesome. It' about the first love and fiance of Giacomo Casanova who's facial appearance is ruined, so she runs away from the marriage. After the runaway she flocks the earth, including Asterdam, Venice, Paris etc until she meet Casanova again (now middle aged) in an Amsterdam theatre. The latter is translated in "The Two Hearts of Kwasi Boachi" quite well translated if I have to believe Amazon and the NY times. It's about two Ghanese princes (cousins) who are send to the Netherlands and the royal court to grow up in an European manner, by manner of a deal struck between the Dutch government and a Ghanese king. But obviously, it being the early 19th century, they grow up dislocated from both places and with racism. But the way Arthur Japin describes their story is just amazing... All those books sound great to me. I haven't read CELL so I will have to get it. I love Stuart Woods books -- lots of thriller and action adventure and his would make great movies.

I haven't seen this thread ever.. but if anyone really wants to know;
There is an Australian Writer Peter Carey and although some of his longer works have become huge films, his short stories are much more appealing to me because of how the atmosphere had hit me. Out of the book titled "The Fat Man in History" there are two stories I would much love to see done as film one is called "The Chance" and the other "The Last Days of a Famous Mime" The Chance is set in a situation a sort of post-alien Earth where we are offered a chance to become someone else via a lottery.. although alien promises are never exactly fulfilled in the way that they are desired this is just the backdrop of the story. .............................. I would however suggest even other works within the collection of short stories such as "Exotic Pleasures" (also based in a post-alien Earth) And the enigmatic Kafkaesque "Do You Love Me?" where the things ignored (including but not limited to people) eventually disappear including huge portions of the map.. written from the perspective of a cartographer's son. -------------------- "move along, nothing to see here; these are not the droids you are looking for..."

"The Haunted" by Herbert.
2 films that i know of with very simalr storylines (possibly based on this book) have been made namely "The Others" and "The Haunted", but neither are the same as the book, I would love to see a film made of the actual Novel. Also dont know if this counts for this subject but I would of liked LOTR-fellowship of the ring to of contained all of the book... a very large section of the book was missed out - The Berrow Downs & Tom Bombadil -------------------- |

Puckoon by Spike Milligan. In the last episode of Jekyll and Hyde I had an SM lookalike do a short cameo of the drunk's song, 'Ooooh I once met a Judy from Dublin town. Her eyes were blue and .......etc. 200 points to the first person who can tell me which scene it was in
