Business benefits - Engaging corporate presentations

A successful presentation isn’t just about presenting information to people.

It’s about getting them interested, making a good impression, and ensuring they remember you after the presentation is over.

Whether you’re presenting to customers, clients, partners, investors or your own staff, you want your presentation to stand out from the endless succession of PowerPoint slideshows and text-based feature lists.

Corporate videos are a proven way to get yourself noticed. They make a great opener to a presentation, especially when they have good music and high impact visuals. Alternatively, use a video for a change of pace in the middle of a longer presentation: it’s a great opportunity to step back and watch how people are responding to what they’re seeing.

Videos are also useful for presentations when you can’t be there in person. People respond well to having someone talk to them. This is an area where video excels. You can do this by filming someone speaking to camera, but many people aren’t comfortable doing this. An animated video can make a great alternative. Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, or another video hosting service and embed it on your Web site where it can be seen by anyone you want. If it’s something you want to keep away from the public, you can just send out the video to anyone who needs to see it, or use the privacy functions of your video hosting service to restrict access to the people you choose.

Getting the best from Moviestorm

If you’re going to go to the effort of making a video, it’s well worth taking the time to make use of the extra functionality that video gives you. One major advantage is that video can carry several layers of information simultaneously, which makes it a very powerful mode of communication.

Look at a modern news channel as an example. You typically have at least three things going on at once. The main information is delivered by the newsreader speaking. Supplementary information is carried by on-screen text. This is good for telling people simple facts that support the main story. Additional information can be carried using video or graphics. You can do this by using a screen behind the presenter, or by cutting to full-screen video or graphics. This can be used for diagrams or infographics, or just to give people something else to look at.

For example, you may be telling people how your product improves productivity in offices. The presenter outlines the key features and benefits to customers. On-screen text lists some examples of satisfied customers. The video screen displays a flowchart of how your product fits in and where the time savings are made, intercut with video of happy office workers and graphs with appropriate upturns.

Another technique that works well is to include a Q&A in your presentation, using an interviewer to ask the most common questions that your audience may have.

Creating your presentation in Moviestorm

Corporate videos are usually expensive to produce, but with Moviestorm they need not be. You may well find there’s someone in your organization who would enjoy the challenge of making a video.

Sound quality is important. If it sounds like your video was recorded with a cheap laptop microphone, your whole video will feel cheap. Invest in a proper USB microphone and record in a quiet place with no echoes - inside your car can work surprisingly well. Make sure you speak clearly and without hesitation.  We’ve put together some handy sound recording tips for you.

Don’t try to be too ambitious at first. Keep your messages clear and concise, and don’t try to rush things. A simple presentation straight to camera may well be all you need. That’s something you can create fairly quickly. Since everything’s done in-house, you can easily change anything you’re not happy with and you don’t need to go back to a creative agency for expensive reshoots or re-edits.
