Marillion Contest Entry
Posted 14 August 2008 - 09:28 PM
The rules say it has to go on YouTube, so it has. The rules also say there can be no other sound on the video apart from the song, so the preamble is silent, song starts at about 0:23.
But as this is such a terrible way of showing work, there is the 720 HDTV rendered version here.

Did you use Magic Bullet? Or something like it?
Posted 14 August 2008 - 10:26 PM
Mixed in Sony Vegas. With a final Magic Bullet plugin for the look. FX done with Particle illusion.
Not my best work, but the contest is attracting cheats who are using robots as I feared so I kinda lost interest to the end.
Still, its all a learning curve and with each piece I make I think I am getting better.
Although the contest is judged on YouTube views, I really don't care about that. I would prefer you to download and watch the high quality file from the link to my website. Its a bit of a big file, but well you know what they say.
"If you have to have one, have a BIG one".

I got £5,000 to win if it gets the most hits by december.
AND....If you have not already noticed, I made sure I strategically positioned the Moviestorm logo so it got full exposure.
Come on Dave, I am sure you know how to fix the YouTube Hit counter
Make me £5,000 and get yourself advertised. Joking of course......Or maybe...whatever....LOL

I have a release for this video from Marillion themselves saying I can enter it into festivals. Pity I missed the Cambridge one, I was hoping to get something into that one.
Anyone know of any other festival coming up where I can get this entered. Like I said, I have a release from the band giving me permission.
I know its not very good technically, but how many music videos made my machinima makers get a release from an artist ?

If you want to promote Moviestorm, however, can I be cheeky and as that you put 'Made using Moviestorm' at the end of your YouTube description, and Moviestorm in the tags? Ta!
Also, if you want to enter it in a competition, you should upload it here and enter it into our Sci Fi competition; the winning video will be shown at the Cambridge film festival!

... but the 25 seconds of silence at the start are long enough to make one think that the sound codec doesnt work, and stop watching to try and faff around with stuff. Does the song need to be played in it's entirety as the only sound, or can you use other parts of the song at the beginning?
EDIT: Aparently it cant be edited at all. Ah well.

What I can do is add sound to the start, the rules say only the YouTube version should be pure. The High Quality download from my site can have the added sound. I will see if I can get it done tonight.
Also when I have done that I will enter it into your Sci-Fi competition.
I will add text to the YouTube comments saying it was made using moviestorm. And I will add a credit to the start of the video saying "Made With Moviestorm".
Thanks for the comments.

I have modified the file and am 2 hours into a re-render. Then I see the bit about including the moviestorm logo at the beginning for it to included in the Sci-Fi Comp.
I am on holiday for a week, it will have to wait until I return, I can get it in by the 8th though so no worries there.
PS: Nice Logo, why didn't you do a 720 version ?
Can anyone from short fuse post or send me an example of a release form. I need to send it to Marillion to be signed ?
They have agreed to sign it, but I don't even know what one of these forms looks like LOL.

You post a very nice logo, and it is totally unreadable with both Sony Vegas and Virtual Dub. At least post a RAW AVI file, don't use that useless H264 codec.
Sorry, I am tired and pi**ed off after having to search for and install a codec that only apple users seem to use.
And after installing that codec I now have serious problems with my PC.
Tell that guy in your office who likes Apple to keep his opinions to himself in future.

The 1930s pack, including skirting boards, this mod is FREEEEEEEE
my free textures, including some normal maps, suitable for moviestorm, unrestricted use

Also, apologies for the problems you've had with H.264. I didn't think it would cause such problems with Windows..

You won't need any sort of release form from us giving you permission to use Moviestorm-generated content. You already have permission for that.
If you're asking for an example of a release form to send to Marillion so that they can licence their music for your use, that's slightly more complicated. I'll PM you and see if we can sort something out.

shame about the lowlife 'bot users racking their YouTube scores. We'll try to promote this through legit channels. Good luck

I have sent off the release form to be signed, hopefully it will only take a couple of days, they seem quite happy to have us interested.
Also I have uploaded the new video with the added sound and logo and entered it into the Sci Fi contest.
So all I can do now is wait with fingers crossed.
