We are changing the movie ratings system in a website update later today; the "star ratings" are being removed. In places where we previously displayed a Movie's star rating, we now just show the number of viewings.

You can still leave Comments on Movies!

In the future, we may well implement a recommendation system where you can give Movies you like a "thumbs up". We also plan to let people add Movies to their list of "favourites".

These changes are the result of a long and interesting forum topic during closed beta. It was certainly clear that people didn't want their Movies to be in a popularity contest, or to be at risk from "one-star ninjas". But people are interested in getting constructive comments from their viewers, and they do want to see how often their Movies are watched.

Luckily we have been counting the number of Movie viewings since the site launched (since we always intended to include this information on the site), so now you'll be able to see how widely viewed your creations are!

Thanks for implementing this!

Things keep getting better and better. Looks like the sky's the limit (and even then, I'd say outer space is the limit biggrin.gif )

Sounds good. While in theory, rating systems are cool, too many people abuse it, like "one-star ninjas" like you said, who rate your movie a 1 if you rated thiers low, even if it was justified. It also stops people from watching low scored movies, even if they're good and were hit by one-star ninjas. But with this system, one-star ninjas can't touch us! They can only leave nasty comments. Which is tolerable.

Great job!

I don't mind a "thumb-up/down"... (I liked it / I thought it was neutral or poor) type rating; five levels ratings is just a little too (artificial and) arbitrary for me... the real comments that someone takes the time to write* means much more to me as a viewer looking for something to watch.

*and secondarily- number of views
(I think giving folks a place to link other folks' movies (on their own site... a limited number of links) is a good way of recommending a movie... you could reset the links at the start of each or every other month... and you would have another way to rate a movie- by being the "most linked".)
The next big thing: MOVIESTORM!

See my most recent movie: "Athena Project: Chapter 2 (Down the Rabbit-hole)"

(Soon, "Athena Project 3: The Laws Of Robotics"

That is great news for me too. You are right, all I want is constructive criticism - however, viewers be careful here - I tend to remake and remake and remake a movie based on comments. So think before you make comments as I do like to go onto new movies and not get stuck in a rut of redoing the same movie over and over and over again. I am never quite satisfied with anything I do.

Real artists never are but you have to tell yourself eventually that it is finished and start working on something else. It happens to me all the time. There is always something that is not right or could be improved upon.

Maybe it should all be positively based, meaning only thumbs up..
That kind of thing.
